

The biggest barrier I think is the time commitment, the areas of the world that you conquer are real big and take a long time to fight through, that's why my favorite TW is Napoleon, much smaller scale makes for an easier game that can be completed in 20 hours instead of 60.Even Shogun, while just set on the island of Japan, is a real long playthrough, because it models every unique region of that island.Įdit: There's totally a steam demo for medieval 2, Empire, shogun 2 and Napoleon, try one of those out for free!!

Just be sure to put it on a lower difficulty so you can have a fun army-stomping time if that's what you prefer. You'll see that they're not really anything to be afraid of. If you want to try it, look for one of the earlier games on the cheap (I recommend Medieval 2, but even the original Rome will give you an idea of how the game works.) The games only get more approachable from there.
